Social Education at the Beccaria Juvenile Detention Centre in Milan: this year, for the first time in Italy, an experience of Biodanza took place in a juvenile detention centre, namely, the I.P.M (Minors Penitentiary Institute) “Cesare Beccaria” of Milan. The experience of Biodanza conducted by the operators Tiziana Brambilla and Luigi Radogna met with enormous success, thus becoming part of the “EMPOWERMENT” project of the Penitentiary Medicine ASST Santi Paolo and Carlo, as a proposal for the social workers of the detention institute for minors, within the integration project for three treatment areas (Healthcare, Educational, Safety), and for the juveniles, as an experience of social education and a psycho-physical-affective well-being laboratory, in the broader meaning of health education.

 

Biodanza was presented to the juveniles of the entire structure in July last year, subdividing them into 4 groups together with their respective social workers. Subsequently, starting from 11 January this year, the Biodanza experience was instead proposed weekly for a total of 16 meetings. In summary, the experience of social education and psycho-physical-affective wellbeing was organized into 8 meetings that were dedicated to the “incoming juveniles” in their first week of presence in the institute, together with their health workers and educators from the Municipality of Milan and, subsequently, in 8 other meetings with the social workers who came from the three Treatment Areas: Healthcare, Educational, and Safety Areas.

The conference on Friday 11 May 2018 at the Penitentiary Institute Cesare Beccaria “SENTIERI TOWARDS THE CITY II Edition – FROM EDUCATION TO HEALTH” (Program IPM-11mag18), was organized by ASST Santi Paolo and Carlo and also publicized by Lombardy Region on the site dedicated to the BioNatural Disciplines which can be visited at http://www.comitatotecnicoscientificodbn.com/.

During the conference various aspects were examined in order to identify more precisely what is meant today by health care needs, together with the modality through which taking restricted minors under charge is structured.

By giving value to the communicative/relational interventions that one can experiment how effective educational therapy is, promoting the adoption of correct lifestyles. As part of this initiative, people were invited to participate in a moment of Biodanza.
