The Pillar of Trance
It is one of the seven Pillars of Biodanza.
In the theoretical model developed by Rolando Toro, two states of consciousness are configured between which we continuously pulsate, transit and move, during life and in Biodanza sessions. These states are represented by the two poles of the “horizontal continuum” of the model:
- Identity “Intensified awareness of oneself and of the world”, e
- Regression “Return to the origin and fusion with the whole”.
Trance and Regression
Trance (“Transire”) is just that: transit, transport, passage from one state to another.
The trance states produce cenesthetic and neurovegetative changes that lead the person to changes in perception.
Trance appears to be linked to the entire history of humanity. Human beings have sought modified states of consciousness to find and connect with wisdom.
Trance and Regression are part of the history of the construction of the theoretical model of Biodanza, based on the observations and experiences of Rolando Toro at the psychiatric hospital of Santiago de Chile.
Biodanza proposes to us to expand the conscience through the vivencia. We know that music and dance can induce trance states. Biodanza aims to balance and transit between these two Poles:
- Identity “Vigil, action”
- Regression “Sleep, self-regulation”
Regression means return to the origin, inducing the appearance of archaic potentials. It is a psychophysiological return to the perinatal stage. In this state the physical and psychic conditions of the beginning of life are relived. It allows us to integrate and harmonize the organism.
In Biodanza only integrative trances are induced.
Biodanza uses the Trance as a method to renew the innate patterns of connection with life. It is a rebirth in the primitive ceremonial sense. We return to the source, the skin no longer performs the function of separating but of uniting.
The group represents the womb in which the sensations of warmth, safety and nourishing harmony are relived.
The integrative trance has the effect of reducing anxiety states, producing a feeling of immense happiness and bodily well-being.

Marisa Clavijo
I am Marisa Clavijo, I was born in R.O.U. Sixty-one years ago. In 2001 I came to Spain looking for a better life opportunity for my family.
I started my new journey, adapt, change, transform myself, so Biodanza found me looking for an emotional balance and I found a life balance.
I am a facilitator of the SRT system and a didacta of the BRT system.
My encounter with this magnificent tool gave me a chance to get to know myself, to relate to my emotions and integrate them into my life in a conscious way.
The practice of her gives me in every encounter the recovery of my natural instincts, facilitating the relationship with others in a healthy and affective way.
I facilitate groups of adults, mainly women with depressive disorders, women in abusive situations or conditions such as fibromyalgia. As with children from unstructured families.
Hosting, assisting, containing while people carry out the vivencias, enriching my process by the subtlety of this care, growing in both personal and professional learning. This was a fundamental contribution as a facilitator to create.
Integrate this magnificent tool that is Biodanza, as a true lifestyle. It gave order and harmony to my daily life and this well-being allowed me to respond to the commitments I was making along the way, showing me the value of my process and my learning.
So I invite everyone to enjoy this experience, this group practice.
